Aja,
ReplyDeleteHow thought-provoking! I cannot imagine having K-12 schooling capture 80% of the students waking time. That is truly "immersion". I personally do not think that's the way to go for K-12. I value quality family time and also time for extracurriculars with my young children. I think that much school time would negatively affect quality family time, relation-building, and skill-building outside the realm of formal education. That said, I do think that K-12 in-class school time could be extended from its current state. In regard to higher education, I think Mr. Gate's prediction that "technology will make place-based colleges less important" is right on. I think that colleges will begin to develop more on-line and blended learning opportunities to allow greater use of techology and provide more flexibility for the college students.
Hi Sue:
ReplyDeleteThank you for your return response. I agree with your comments I think the K-12 immersion program proposes is too intense and I do not see a large number of parents agreeing to be separated from their child/children for such an extensive period of time.
In terms of higher education,I think the technological evolution promoting more online & blended instruction is presently at o
play across many colleges and universities across the United States.
